Thanks for the info! It hasn't died, hence the thread is still here to remind me. I'm hoping to set up a separate section on the website, maybe like a microsite that can be promoted around the other clubs and boards without it seeming like we are trying to plug the website. I'll be looking in to this soon, keep the ideas coming.

Could we not set it up the same way as your best practice guides so we can edit a post as opposed to adding one, and initially just split it into 2 door hatch, 2 door Saloon, 4 door Saloon, Estate, Chevanne and HS (ALL hsr's are logged as HS anyway) and see what the interest levels are, you could also have one for special editions such as black watch, silhouette etc. Once we see what gets posted we can assess what is needed on a more permanent basis. What do you think?

Okay, so what information are we trying to gather and should it be confidential?

I think it has to be in the members only section methinks, we could put a pinned query in general but only members update the register, I think the only info in there should be the Reg number, and what it is, any mods etc, the DSG one has the letters of the chassis number with asterisks to keep confidentiality.

Really interesting stats from DVLA - I knew chevettes were getting rare. I now feel bad about the cars I scrapped 10 years ago (4) because they were too rusty to MOT. I met a HSR last sunday and its keeper said it was one of 30. I apparently own one of 16 GLS 1256 still on the road - wow! Register is a good idea but confidentiality of personal and vehicle data is an issue. Should be members only and then a secondary login or pin to confirm before viewing reg / vin numbers. - cheers scotty

i like the idea of a list that covers not only the manufacturers models but also the modified varients (which is where mine sits)
however if you want it to be useful then putting it in the members section will make it just another secret list, bit like a public library you have to pay to get in. work on the basis it will attract people to the site, then a few may join
the data in it will have to be that which the owner is prepared to give, this could be a basic model and partial chassis number to a full spec - which may change.
on the dvla numbers i suspect they are high, certainly in motorsport re-shells used to be common and easy and you wouldn't necessarily inform the dvla. i also know of an hs that the new owner is trying to get back on the road (we don't know if it was removed from the dvla records)

Just a little suggestion to add into this great idea - what about parts that are becoming impossible to get hold of - "unobtainium" as some call them. Could a section be added into it (particularly if a car in a scrap yard as items of unobtainium) for the location/availability of such parts?
Or should that be the subject of another section entirely?
